Oregon trip: Day Two--the funeral

Sure enough, Lincoln (and I) were wide awake at 5:30am. The morning was full of funeral preparations--the boys learning a new song to sing at the funeral and getting the church set up for a 10am family-meet-and-greet.

Brett's wife, Jen, and I

The church was decorated with pictures of Grandma

It was also decorated with quilts that Grandma made
As funerals go, Grandma's was wonderful. A fitting tribute to one who gave her life in service to others.

The cemetery is tucked away in a beautiful location, quiet and peaceful, as a cemetery should be. I must admit, I hadn't shed a tear the entire morning, but when my Grandpa spoke briefly after Uncle Jack dedicated the grave, I pretty much lost it. Maybe it's something about someone I love who doesn't show emotion often showing emotion, but I was very moved.

The luncheon was held in the greenhouse at the farm. Here are some of the characters from that event...

Goofball Brett

Later in the afternoon all the family gathered together to tell stories about Grandma. Stephen sent me with his digital voice recorder, so I have all the stories safe and sound, ready to be transcribed. All of Mom's siblings, spouses and their children (with the exception of 3 of my cousins and my kids) were able to be at the funeral and share stories.

After stories, I had my inventor uncle Dee put his z-locks on my running shoes (a must for pregnant me!), and Brett & co. and Lincoln and I went home. Aaaaaand pretty much straight to bed.

Thank you for posting pictures of your family and the funeral. I almost stayed so I could be there but I knew you would want to be with your family and my little crew would only be in the way. Your grandma is one of the most beautiful people and I will miss her.

I am also very excited to hear you are expecting. Hope you are feeling alright.
